Hong Kong and Macau

Hong Kong and Macau

While visiting the Philippines, I gave myself a special vacation to Hong Kong. Despite being last minute, I gave myself a birthday trip to Macau. If you are an American, you are not required to have a visa for these two places, but you need a separate visa for mainland China. As I discovered this too late, I didn't feel like paying exorbitant fees to go at the last minute. While I was there for a short period of time, there was no shortage of fun things to do.While I was there for a short period of time, there was no shortage of fun things to do. Nowhere made me feel unsafe as a solo female traveler, even at night when I was alone. In Hong Kong, I stayed at a hotel that was convenient to everything I wanted to see. The public transit system here is very easy to use and it will get you almost anywhere you want to go, since buses and trains run quite frequently. There was only one time I took a taxi, and if there is a language barrier, you can always call dispatch. My experience with language has not been an issue, and I do not speak any Chinese. The majority of the people here speak English because there is so much international business going on here. Rather than doing a tour, I was able to map out my journey using Google Maps. By doing this, I'm able to take my time and explore the city at my own pace. It is very easy to purchase a pass for public transportation, but you must pay cash. Food options range from Michelin-starred restaurants to fast food to local restaurants. The vegan diet did not pose a problem for me when it came to finding options.

A view from my hotel, the amount of skyscrapers here is amazing!!!

The Peninsula Hong Kong is the flagship for the Hotel Group. I didn't have time for high tea but it's a must on my next visit.

This is the light show and fantastic view from the Star Ferry. A must do and inexpensive way to view such a sprawling and beautiful city.

Just a bit of Jade shopping, I can't believe how amazing the selection is here!!!!

Of course I had to go to Disneyland and I was so happy that it is not as expensive here as it is in the US. I am happy to announce that I am now an International musketeer.
